This workshop was designed to meet the educational and license recertification needs of North Carolina grain farmers in Lincoln, Cleveland, Catawba and Gaston counties. The 4-hour event was financially supported by Farm Bureau, Farm Credit, Southern States Cooperative, Foothills Crop Insurance and the NC Soybean Producers Association. The promotional flyer was mailed to 187 farmers and emailed to 413 farmers using Constant Contact. The event was posted on the NC Cooperative Extension public calendars and websites for the target counties. Paper flyers were also offered by hand in several cooperative extension offices and farmer events in the region. Flyer and educational content were co-developed by agents Dill and Carleo. Graphic design was created and distributed by Moore. Distribution of materials via the online calendars, website, electronic and paper mail were conducted by Thompson. Educational programming was delivered by 3 specialists and agents Dill and Carleo. 111 farmers and crop advisors were in attendance. 86 received mandatory trainings or recertification credits including 4 Certified Crop Advisors. An end of workshop survey was collected on the day of the event. There were 32 respondents (28.8% survey response rate). Of those:

30 growers reported managing a total of 19,980 acres of land;

94% reported learning something new;

77% said they would both make and save money as a result of what they learned in the workshop;

Over 90% agreed or strongly agreed that specialist presentations increased their understanding of insect management in corn and soybeans and of fungicidal treatment options on soybeans;

84% believe that what they learned would help them improve natural resource management on their farm.
