Agronomic leasing arrangements have been extremely volatile, in the last couple of years, due to the increased cost of inputs along with low commodity prices and decreasing land values.  Nearly 90 percent of operations use rented land and because rented land is so important in farming operations, rental arrangements can have significant impacts on the risk and returns of those operations.  The objective of this publication is to provide supplemental information in developing equitable leasing arrangements. The purpose of this survey is to provide additional resources on specific average leasing arrangements and rates for North central Kansas in the areas of dryland cropland, crop residue, pasture and recreational hunting.  Surveys were developed for each of the different categories and randomly emailed or mailed out to 35-75 producers in each of the five counties in our District with a 19%-33% return rate. The survey indicated an average rental rate for dryland cropland for Osborne County of $50/acre with a range of $20-$85/acre.  This information was provided to producers at several winter educational events along with on display at each of the five Extension Offices in the District. The producers in attendance at the meetings increased their knowledge of lease development along with additional clientele who stopped by each of the District Offices for a total of over 450 distributed.  The survey data was compiled by the crop agent and was published along with made available on our Post Rock Extension District website: http://postrock.ksu.edu. The survey was developed, compiled and published, January 2020, using a computer, Microsoft Word and a color printer.
