The purpose of this video is to provide educational support for Columbus City Schools Elementary teachers on the topic of seed starting.  It is one of 18 digital modules that will be created to support the Growing Teachers Throughout the Seasons grant project in partnership with Columbus City Schools, OSU Extension Farm to School, Scotts Miracle Gro and OSU Extension Franklin County. The seed start kit materials used in the video were donated by Scotts Miracle Gro through a project idea from this partnership that will enable all 75 CCS elementary schools to grow both indoors and outdoors, impacting 39,073 elementary students via STEM-based agricultural educational techniques. I created the photographic and video digital content in the diagnostic lab at the OSU Extension building at Waterman Farm using an iPhone 8 and  Xenvo lens mount with a Clarus 12.5X Macro lens.  Initial editing was done using photo tools on Microsoft Office 365 with final editing and publishing using the Adobe Creative Cloud, OSU-branded, Adobe Spark online and mobile desktop app.  To create the video I planted kale seedlings at four week, two week and one week intervals to time-line growth stages for detail with a video clip of the seeding procedure included to demonstrate technique. Narration was then story boarded and all steps were meticulously but straightforwardly described in an easy going and interactive narrative style.  All components of the kit, which are exact to what teachers receive via project funding, were shown and described, including background technical information to address any knowledge barriers that may impede implementation.  The video was purposefully designed to be short, engaging, social media friendly, sharable and portable. This four minute video provides content rapidly to educators, can be viewed anywhere on a phone or tablet, and is free and open for public use to serve the mission of Extension, provide sustainability to the school farming activities, and assist in rapid implementation as an easily accessed forward thinking template.  The video was uploaded to OSU Extension Franklin County’s Growing Franklin website and has been viewed 559 times.
