The Making Jams & Jellies fact sheet provides information on one component of the Alabama Cottage Food Law. The purpose of this fact sheet is to provide the rules and regulations for cottage food producers to safely can jams and jellies in a water bath canner in their homes. Information is pertinent to the essential equipment needed, canning basics, methods of canning, conditions for Clostridium botulinum growth, and steps for water bath canning. This information is imperative to obtaining the Alabama Cottage Food Law certification to become a cottage food producer under the Alabama Department of Public Health requirement. My contribution as the creator of this communication is to provide a PDF fact sheet that may also be downloaded from the AL Extension website. Seven hundred and ten producers receiving facts about making jams and jellies also received the Alabama Cottage Food Law certification in 2019 from the Alabama Extension food safety team. This number does not include individuals that downloaded information about making jams and jellies from the Extension website and did not receive certification.
